Our Valentines Family Dinner

First, let me apologize for not having any personal snapshots of last night’s simple celebration. One, we were too lazy to bring our “Nikky” DSLR. Two, we were dead hungry that we wouldn’t have time to spare for a quick food photoshoot. But to make my post more enjoyable and enticing (pardon if I’ll tempt you to storm the kitchen and grab some food), I have snagged a few photos from the restaurant’s website.

We didn’t have lavish date plans actually as our Sunday was extremely busy with other non-Valentine related errands. When we got home in the afternoon at 5 pm, we both instantly craved for pasta and pizza. Originally, it would just be the two of us but knowing how the little one loves pasta, we tagged him and his nanny along, thus, it was a Valentines Family Dinner.

We didn’t wander further as Don Henrico’s West Ave is just a few minutes drive from our place. All in all, we had a pleasant experience dining in this resto just like the first time. Despite it was already 7 pm when we arrived, there was an ample parking space, reservation was swift and we were seated right away at Table # 4. Seeing that we have a toddler, the staff offered us a high chair immediately.

We were given the menu and these satisfied our tummies:
1. Don Henrico’s Thin Onion Rings
2. Philly Steak Cheese Pizza with thin crust
3. Lasagna
4. Fettuccini Ala King
5. Buffalo Wings

Food started to fill our table in less than 15 minutes, I think, since the time our order was taken. They must have carefully and strategically anticipated the volume orders on special occasions like this. Their service was fairly fast despite the numerous diners continuously coming in at a peak hour (7 PM).

We feasted and satisfied our taste buds down to the last spoon. Need not comment anymore how great the food was because big tummies (including that of the little one) and the husband’s guilt and thoughts about discount diet pills while eating are fine proofs that they were all indeed scrumptious.

The little one was also given a bunch of Valentines red balloons (one of their decors) without us requesting probably after seeing how my balloon lover son fascinated over them. We also got a free red Don Henrico’s heart pillow after meeting their required minimum order amount for the Valentines promo.

A close college buddy of mine just shared the news that she’s now engaged to her long time boyfriend. Finally! They’ve been going steady for 10 years! Aside from Christmas, one reason that I’m excited about the coming year end Holidays is the upcoming wedding of a very dear friend, P. The Maid of Honor, C, who’s also a close friend of ours, has sought or should I say, made me promise that I help her out in organizing P’s bridal shower two weeks before the wedding. C sounded so desperate that I had no choice but to say yes. It’s not that I’m expert in that field but given that I’m the only one in our circle of friends, so far, who’s married, there’s no one to help her. And since I got myself into it, I have started scouring the web for ideas on how to stage a semi-wild-but-wholesome-still bachelorette party. I now have a few ideas like on the theme, invitations to hand out, food and other party effects. Thanks to the Bachelorette.com coupon codes I chanced upon online, we’ll save a lot on the party effects we’ll be ordering. Same with my gift for the bride. I have scored some Romantic Gifts coupons and I’m sure that she’ll first feel aloof with my gift but I know that they’ll enjoy it. :naughty grin:

Hardworking.

One of the topics that I blog most of the time is about my family, specifically my boys. I used to blog about dear husband a lot then but now, the little boy has taken the center stage that I barely even mention the husband. So tonight, I will dedicate an exclusive blog post for the main man of the family.

If you are a Facebook contact, you might have frequently read my blurbs about having late dinners during weekdays. It is because the husband has been working overtime for the past couple of months and he usually reaches home late at 9 pm. Eating late can be a big sacrifice to my “always-hungry” tummy but I don’t have the right to complain. Besides, I’d rather eat late with the husband than eat alone early. It’s my way of helping the husband de-stress after a very long and tiring day at work. I appreciate that he’s such a very hardworking and responsible provider to our family. Ever since, he’s been such even during his student years. I can even recall how he patiently underwent his boring OJT course – he counted stocks of refurbished VOIP Phones in one of the major telephone companies in the country. He took up Electronics and Communications Engineering so his works and projects were about these VOIP Phones. (If you wish to know more about these VOIP phones, check out Primelec.com).

Anyway, I wish that he takes time to relax because his body might take its toll on him if he won’t slow down. And that is why I love long weekends so much like what we have now. He was on leave last Friday then it’s public holiday on Monday so my son and I are the happiest because we get to spend 4 long days with the most hardworking Daddy on the world.

Loving and Losing.

A friend of mine lost her little pea at exactly 8 weeks of gestation just recently. It was a case of early fetal demise where the tiny embryo stopped developing on the 6th week. As a long time friend who has witnessed their love and their marriage (they were wed December last year), I grieve for their loss. And as I’ve told my friend, all the more that I can feel her pain because I’m a mother, too. And her experience was yet again another eye-opener for me of how God sets things in the right time. Another realization sets in that God doesn’t mean that He’s meaning to punish us for nothing when He gives us trials. These trials and sufferings are actually a blessing in itself. We may not perfectly understand what His plans and intentions are, but somewhere beneath those pain is an assurance…a blessing that we fail to see…because doubt, distrust and hatred clouds it right away.

Of course, a loss is still a loss. But in this particular situation, if it will help my friend to recover from this tragedy, losing it at 8 weeks is better than losing it at a later month when her offspring is bigger, during delivery or even after when the attachment has become more intense . Even for just 8 weeks, she was given the chance to be a budding mom..a confirmation, that they are capable of making a baby. Even for just a moment, she felt how it was to be excited, inspired and given a hope that she can be a Mom..only it’s just not the right time. A lot of TTC couples have been dying to be given that chance.

Just as a love quote goes: It’s better to have loved and lost than never to have it all.
