Finally, after exhaustively completing tons of online jobs in the last couple of days, I’m spending my Sunday just nice, relaxed and slow. I’ve accomplished much of tasks and as it is a long weekend with the special non-working holiday tomorrow, I’ll get to bond with my boys tomorrow without thinking about any pending deliverables. I also I just needed to work and finish all because tomorrow night’s the trip of my son’s nanny to the province. She’ll be gone for a week for her much needed semi-annual vacation back home. So that means, my computer time this coming week will be limited as I need to attend to the little one. So before I embark with a busy and tiring week, I’m going to make the most out of my Sunday. Last Easter Sunday, we bought ourselves and our dear Little Mansion a sort of an Easter Gift. The day before we bought a window type air conditioner at an appliance store for the master’s bedroom. We were also supposed to buy a HDTV however, there were not enough brands and models on display. The ones on the rack were too expensive and there were no interesting promos offered for credit cardholders. The ones on display were mostly Plasma TVs that are way beyond our budget. We were actually gunning for a 32 inch LCD TV, no particular brand in mind then. We thought that selecting should be easy when provided with great selection of choices and there are salesmen who can help us decide. But as the models are limited, we decided to postpone the TV buying for a while and check out other appliance stores.

Later that night, I decided to check out the internet and read more about LCD TVs and scout for stores that offers wide array of brands. I was so lucky to have stumbled upon Shopwiki.co.uk, because not only was I able to locate online appliance shops but I was also educated on how shop for HDTVs and Home Theater Systems that will suit our requirement. I’ve actually learned a lot from their Home Theatre Buying Guide especially about DVD Players, Blu-Ray Disc Players, DVD Recorders, DVD/VCR Combos and also Home Audio Systems. I got an idea what to look for, specifications to choose and Brands to prefer. The next day we found an irresistible deal in another appliance store and we bought it in a breeze. We did not have to rely solely on the salesman’s convincing ability because we knew all along already our ideal HDTV.

Lenten Plans.

On the news are thousands of people flocking in the city’s airport, bus terminals and port area. The expressways leading to the suburbs and provinces are likewise being slowly filled up with cars and autos all having their Lenten vacation away from the city. Some people observe the traditional Lenten ways like do the Visita Iglesia, Senakulo, Pasyon in the provinces. The long holiday break also serves a vacation for some and as it is summer already, the beach is the most popular destination to escape the tormenting heat.

As for us, we won’t be visiting my FIL’s ancestral home in Bulacan on Good Friday as we normally do. We won’t be seeing flagellants doing their sacrifices this year. We’ll just be confined here at home, do our lenten sacrifice (for me it’ll be internet fasting so I’ll be offline starting tomorrow) and do a much needed reflection.

We’re up for a fun-filled Easter Monday though as the whole family (my side) will be trooping to a nearby beach for some bonding time and much sought r&r. We initially planned an out of the country trip as my sister found tempting Disney vacation deals (she saw a vacation rental nightly rate of just $30 from VacationRentals.com) however, we can not have our schedules meet for a longer vacation. We’ll see if we can push through with that on December.

Holiday Vacation.

No Party Next Week.

My heart is actually breaking that my son will not have a party on his birthday next week. Due to budget constraints as we prioritize the Little Mansion that we’re currently building, we decided that it will just be celebrated intimately with our families (both sides). On Monday, we’ll treat my in-laws to a special dinner in a restaurant then have a little cake blowing ceremony (complete with party decors such as balloons and party custom plastic cups) the next day at my folks’ place with a little snack feasting in the afternoon. Then, to cap off his birthday celebration, we’ll spend our Saturday visiting the aquatic animals and the wide array of fishes in the famous Oceanarium in the city. He’s such an animal lover so I’m pretty sure he’ll get ecstatic to see those colorful water species. It may be a three-day celebration but it’ll still be less taxing and stressful (not to mention cheaper) as compared to having a grand party. After all, what’s important is that we get to celebrate still albeit so simple and intimate and above all, the celebrant will feel how he’s so much loved not only during his special day but always.

Our Valentines Family Dinner

First, let me apologize for not having any personal snapshots of last night’s simple celebration. One, we were too lazy to bring our “Nikky” DSLR. Two, we were dead hungry that we wouldn’t have time to spare for a quick food photoshoot. But to make my post more enjoyable and enticing (pardon if I’ll tempt you to storm the kitchen and grab some food), I have snagged a few photos from the restaurant’s website.

We didn’t have lavish date plans actually as our Sunday was extremely busy with other non-Valentine related errands. When we got home in the afternoon at 5 pm, we both instantly craved for pasta and pizza. Originally, it would just be the two of us but knowing how the little one loves pasta, we tagged him and his nanny along, thus, it was a Valentines Family Dinner.

We didn’t wander further as Don Henrico’s West Ave is just a few minutes drive from our place. All in all, we had a pleasant experience dining in this resto just like the first time. Despite it was already 7 pm when we arrived, there was an ample parking space, reservation was swift and we were seated right away at Table # 4. Seeing that we have a toddler, the staff offered us a high chair immediately.

We were given the menu and these satisfied our tummies:
1. Don Henrico’s Thin Onion Rings
2. Philly Steak Cheese Pizza with thin crust
3. Lasagna
4. Fettuccini Ala King
5. Buffalo Wings

Food started to fill our table in less than 15 minutes, I think, since the time our order was taken. They must have carefully and strategically anticipated the volume orders on special occasions like this. Their service was fairly fast despite the numerous diners continuously coming in at a peak hour (7 PM).

We feasted and satisfied our taste buds down to the last spoon. Need not comment anymore how great the food was because big tummies (including that of the little one) and the husband’s guilt and thoughts about discount diet pills while eating are fine proofs that they were all indeed scrumptious.

The little one was also given a bunch of Valentines red balloons (one of their decors) without us requesting probably after seeing how my balloon lover son fascinated over them. We also got a free red Don Henrico’s heart pillow after meeting their required minimum order amount for the Valentines promo.

Old Navy’s Sixty Gifts at $6

I’ve been blessed with extra online earnings these past few months so I was able to shop a bit plenty of apparels for my boys at Old Navy. These also served as my advance Christmas gifts to them. For just under a hundred bucks, I was able to buy 15 pieces..yeah that many..it is because they were all on sale. Among my loot, I’m most happy with the sleepwears that the little one had worn already the other night. The quality’s great, very soft and comfy.

The Golden lighting I’m eyeing to buy tonight suddenly faces uncertainty. I just browsed Old Navy and this banner is a temptation.

I may be a little stingy but sales are my weakness. Can anyone please hold me back. LOL

Home Security

Last night at a little past midnight, I woke up hearing some commotion in the street. Turned out the barangay marshalls were hunting down a burglar who raided a neighbor’s house. Our neighbor doesn’t have an installed adt security nor dogs that might have prevented the burglar from intruding.

No one can argue that one of the basic concerns that we, parents, always think of is home security. Living in a world where temptation and evil minds lurk even in our own communities where we think we are safe, we must always be on guard. Home emergencies may strike anytime. We cannot afford to be careless at any time. Our family’s safety is at stake so we shouldn’t think twice about acquiring tools and devising emergency plans to prevent or minimize effects of untoward and unfortunate events.

Here are some of our home security ways:
1. We lock up our home, even if we go out only for a short time. This may appear too elementary but we know that many burglars just walk in through an unlocked door or window.
2. We use a double lock or I think it’s called a spring-latch lock. Burglars sometimes use and slide a plastic card through a knob to unlock it.
3. Dogs can make good security guards, too. We have two and they stay outside at night.
4. We haven’t installed one but we’ll soon use an alarm system. It is proven that a home alarm system has prevented so many burglaries and thefts.
5. We padlock our gates and leave the garage lighting on through the night.

Ours is just simple yet truly effective. It doesn’t have to be exaggerated because the setup may also backfire and don’t serve its purpose if it’s too complicated.
