Traditional or Home School Curriculum

My son is 2 1/2 years old now. Just a few months to go, he may already be eligible to enter pre-school. Time flies so fast so as early as now, we’ve started saving up for his education and further, I am currently making my research about pre-school education so we can draw up plans of how we’d all go about it. We’re clueless yet as to which type of curriculum we’d pursue but one thing is for sure. We want the most nurturing environment for our son.

Hubby and I went to a traditional pre-school where our foundation was remarkable and the setup worked for us. But these days, more and more have been advocating about how the Home school curriculum proves to be equally effective (in some instances, more advantageous) for many kids and families. Many parents who home school their pre-schoolers attest that this setup is now easier because of vast resources that are made available for them online. It’s In The Genes

I was in deep concentration earlier working on my blogs when I got distracted by my 2 1/2 year old son’s voice. He was sitting on the couch with an open book on his lap. He flipped the pages as he went on reciting “1 dog”, “2 cats”, “3 elephants”, etc. I almost believed that he can count the figures on his own now but actually, he has just memorized his favorite counting board book. He can definitely recite his numbers 1-15 but the concept of counting objects is too complex for him to know at this stage like how Algebra equations and Math Word Problems appear to non-Math persons. Whenever I am not working or whenever he demands a reading time, this particular book is what we frequently read. That’s why he has memorized it and can now recite the corresponding numbers and objects by heart. I am actually one proud Mom because he’s an early and fast learner. He learned reciting his numbers at exactly 2 and I’m certain that he will learn How to divide at an early age, too. His Dad has a strong inclination with Mathematics so I could say that he actually got the genes.

For most students, school will start next week. During my schooling age from elementary to college, the excitement I felt going back to school was tremendous. New teachers, new classmates, new uniforms, new stuffs. The last two were the most that I was excited about and I bet most of the students share the same sentiments with me. Definitely, I was also thrilled about the new learning that would be imparted to me.

Somebody’s extremely happy because he has seen already his college grades all satisfactory and that he has passed all his subjects. My biggest congratulations to my brother who’s finally receiving his diploma on the 25th. Our parents have already sent out graduation announcements for the blowout party he’ll be having right after his graduation. They couldn’t be happier and proud of their son’s achievement..and of course, their achievement, too, because they painstakingly worked hard just to send him (and us, the three elder siblings) to the best schools. Kudos to my parents and of course, to our youngest sibling.

When I entered college, I had this goal to graduate with an Accounting major degree and consequently become a Certified Public Accountant later on. The first one and a half years of my pre-commerce years were directed on that path until I decided that accounting seemed not for me. So instead, I spent my majoring years taking up Business Administration, upon my Dad’s encouragement and influence, too. I perfectly love what my career with such background (degree) has become. However, there sometimes comes a point when I wonder “what if” I pursued my first plan. Perhaps I could be working in the top accounting firms abroad by now or maybe in a Las Vegas accounting firm which most of my CPA friends are yearning to work for. It’s just not one of my priorities now but returning to school to acquire a masteral degree has always been a long time dream and a long term goal. When things get settled in a year or two with my motherhood duties, hopefully, I can enroll myself and pursue a Business or Finance related masteral course. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce major in Business Administration and since I have immense interest in the internet and computers, I’m looking at financial engineering as a possible option. A masteral course in Business Administration may also be a good choice but I’m thinking of going back to the corporate world and land into a quant job in the banking and finance operations like I used to.

Financial engineering or computational finance course may sound new or uncommon but actually, workers in this field have been around in the workforce for years now. It’s just that this cross-disciplinary field was made more detailed and focused on computational intelligence, mathematical finance, numerical methods and computer simulations as technology (sotware and computer) also advances.
