You might have heard the myth that touching frogs causes warts. There’s no truth about this because warts are caused by the papilloma virus.

Perhaps, the elders have warned you that to prevent spending so much on acne solutions, you must eat less chocolates because they cause acne. Skin care experts say that acne is not caused by any specific food, including oily and greasy foods and sweets. Actually, the acne causing factors are just: dead skin cells’ buildup within the pore, an excess of skin oil, and a proliferation of acne-causing bacteria. So there, this is definitely a good news to us, chocoholics.

I remember, in our fifth grade Science subject, we studied and even memorized a few typhoon names. During those times, PAG-ASA (Philippine Athmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration) used the old sets of names derived from those of the women elders’ like Rosing, Nitang, Uring, Ruping, etc.

In 2001, they began to use new sets of cyclone names. There are four sets of 25 names that will be rotated annually. Do notice that the names have become more modern now and even include masculine names. If in case you’re wondering why PAG-ASA is still assigning local names to tropical cyclones in the Philippines when in fact there’s a set of international names observed worldwide, here are the reasons why:
1. These are more easily remembered in the rural areas
2. The utilization of these names mean that the cyclone is within the country’s area of responsibility
3. These names help to enhance public attention given to a system especially that tropical and/or monsoon depressions can bring very heavy rainfall to the country which often results in disastrous flooding
