We’ve just been notified that a close friend of ours is three months on the way and they’re expecting their second child by mid-September. This is the fourth or fifth notification we’ve received since this January so it’s another year of baby boom among in our circle of friends. Before I know it, we’ll get invited once again to baby shower parties one after another, then christenings…then first birthdays. It’ll be another round again, just like last year, of shopping for baby slings that we can gift the mothers-to-be and my little son’s playmates-to-be. Remember, for acne that are pregnancy-related, do not right away just dab the best acne cleanser there is. As this type of acne is just hormonal, it’s best to consult the OB-gyne first before putting on any chemical or taking in any medication.

1. Exercise regularly to help keep the blood pressure within the normal range.
2. Drink plenty of fluids every day, especially water to flush out toxins.
3. Don’t give up makeup completely.
4. Get plenty of rest, take regular breaks during the day to relax and unwind, eat nutritious food, and make sure you get out of the house.
5. Remind yourself that you are beautiful.

Of Acne Breakouts and Gap Maternity Fashion

A pregnant friend just popped me a message over at YM and she’s complaining about her adult acne breakouts. Prior to pregnancy, she always had clear skin so it’s driving her crazy now. If I don’t understand how a pregnant woman can get so sensitive, I would have laughed over her reaction because she was lamenting as if her acne is the biggest problem in the whole world. But being a woman and having experienced pregnancy myself, I understand that her hormones are just acting up and that’s also causing her “ultra” sensitivity over this matter. I comforted her saying that it will clear up in no time and I just know the perfect remedy to her problem right now. Her mood changed in an instant when I showed her these stylish maternity dresses and fashion from Gap.

Loving and Losing.

A friend of mine lost her little pea at exactly 8 weeks of gestation just recently. It was a case of early fetal demise where the tiny embryo stopped developing on the 6th week. As a long time friend who has witnessed their love and their marriage (they were wed December last year), I grieve for their loss. And as I’ve told my friend, all the more that I can feel her pain because I’m a mother, too. And her experience was yet again another eye-opener for me of how God sets things in the right time. Another realization sets in that God doesn’t mean that He’s meaning to punish us for nothing when He gives us trials. These trials and sufferings are actually a blessing in itself. We may not perfectly understand what His plans and intentions are, but somewhere beneath those pain is an assurance…a blessing that we fail to see…because doubt, distrust and hatred clouds it right away.

Of course, a loss is still a loss. But in this particular situation, if it will help my friend to recover from this tragedy, losing it at 8 weeks is better than losing it at a later month when her offspring is bigger, during delivery or even after when the attachment has become more intense . Even for just 8 weeks, she was given the chance to be a budding mom..a confirmation, that they are capable of making a baby. Even for just a moment, she felt how it was to be excited, inspired and given a hope that she can be a Mom..only it’s just not the right time. A lot of TTC couples have been dying to be given that chance.

Just as a love quote goes: It’s better to have loved and lost than never to have it all.

Boy or Girl?

I found these articles way before Asher was conceived. As I’ve mentioned and you might have known already, it took us one and a half year trying to conceive and during those months, we fervently hoped and prayed that we’d be given our turn to have a little angel of our own.

Regarding the gender calendar, I could say that it was pretty accurate for me. I conceived Asher at 26 yrs old in the month of June…truly he was a boy.

Background: Man’s sperm consists of X & Y spermatozoa, X spermatozoon decides the female whereas Y is the male. Referring to these physiological properties of the spermatozoa, gynecologists set up the theory of “Choice of a girl or a boy“.

1st factor: Food
If you want a baby girl: Husband must eat more alkaline food, wife eats more acidic food.
If you want a baby boy: Husband eats more acidic food, wife eats more alkaline food.
Alkaline food: vegetables, fruits, egg white, milk, algae, etc.
Acidic food: meat, seafood, etc.

2nd factor: Timing (When to do it ?)
If you want a baby girl: Frequent copulation during pre-ovulation period.
If you want a baby boy: Copulating just before ovulation or just after ovulation.
How to confirm ovulation period: Body temperature increases (you may want to use SPC chart to monitor your body temperature here).

3rd factor: Penetration (How to do it ?)
If you want a baby girl: Husband to avoid deep penetration in the female vagina during copulation.
If you want a baby boy: Deep penetration by the husband is suggested.
Reasoning:Characteristics of X & Y spermatozoa
X: Marathon runner with good stamina
Y: Sprinter but poor stamina
So, with deep penetration, the chances for Y to reach destination will be higher.

4th factor: Stimulation
If you want a baby girl: Wife should avoid stimulation during copulation. Secretion from female vagina becomes alkaline when stimulated, therefore this promotes the activity of Y spermatozoon.
If you want a baby boy: Husband ejaculates after wife has been stimulated.

5th factor: Wife’s Preparation
If you want a baby girl: Rinse the vagina with solution dissolving 2 spoonfuls of white vinegar in 1 liter of water. Since an acidic condition decreases activity of Y spermatozoon.
If you want a baby boy: Rinse the vagina with solution dissolving 2 spoonfuls of soda in 1 liter of water.

6th factor: Positioning
If you want a baby girl: Female to be on the top position & male to be on the bottom position.
If you want a baby boy: Male to be on the top position & female to be on the bottom position. This posture allows the Y spermatozoon to reach the destination faster.

My Qatar-based sister is about to give birth in two months time. We were chatting this morning and even showed me through the webcam her ballooned tummy. She’s complaining about how heavy and tough it is walking around, how painful her back is now and we also chatted about the funny remarks she has received recently.. I can totally relate because I, too, had my own dose of funny-and-trying-to-psyche-myself-not-offensive remarks:

Colleague: “Mai..ang laki-laki na talaga ng tiyan mo!” (Siyempre naman, nagdedevelop si baby eh)

Colleague # 2: “Mai..ang cute mo..para kang butete!” (Hmmm..flattered with the “cute” thing. With the butete thing..whatever!)
