Dear hubby’s celebrating his birthday tomorrow. Under “normal” circumstance, I could definitely have secured a surprise birthday gift for him by now. But with the big move we’re about to undertake, he dashed ahead to inform me that there’s no need to buy him any. The TV I bought for Little Mansion out of my blog earnings (plus the Slingbox) are more than enough to comprise as my birthday gift for him, he says. And more importantly, the Little Mansion itself is the biggest birthday gift he could ever have so he can’t and will not ask for more.

Somebody’s extremely happy because he has seen already his college grades all satisfactory and that he has passed all his subjects. My biggest congratulations to my brother who’s finally receiving his diploma on the 25th. Our parents have already sent out graduation announcements for the blowout party he’ll be having right after his graduation. They couldn’t be happier and proud of their son’s achievement..and of course, their achievement, too, because they painstakingly worked hard just to send him (and us, the three elder siblings) to the best schools. Kudos to my parents and of course, to our youngest sibling.

Little son’s 2nd birthday is just less than 2 months away. We haven’t decided on anything as to what we’ll have for him. Initially, I planned (and even have already saved up) for a Jollibee party since he so love the big red bee but anticipating the completion of Little Mansion by the same month and foreseeing the major expenses it will entail, I figured it will be more practical if we’ll just hold a simple feasting at home among us his close family and friends. We’ll setup a few party decors most especially balloons, have a candle lighted birthday cake to blow…then infinite happiness it is for him. The simple joys of childhood. I’m also thinking to treat the little one to a short out of town trip with just the three of us or checked us in in an overnight stay in a less splendid hotel (not as grand as new orleans hotel) but perhaps we can do that come summer time which, I think, is too way early if we hold it on first week of March. As of now, we’re mostly go for a simple party at home then just save the remaining budget for the Little Mansion.

Earlier this year, we planned and started to save for an anniversary trip abroad. My husband hasn’t set foot on international grounds yet and our Hong Kong Honeymoon trip didn’t push through so we were really set to make it happen this year. Even though he has experienced flying in an airplane, my little tot would also want to ride again as airplanes are his fascination. This prompted me to canvas good travel deals on the web. Hong Kong was my top choice but I was also browsing package deals in other destinations like inclusive Jamaica just in case our budget permits. I’ve been reading good reviews and raves about Jamaica and its all inclusive resorts offerings in various travel sites and it really got me interested. I even made extensive research about Ocho Rios hotels. Their guests have a lot of positive things to say about this hotel.

Unfortunately, the sudden turn of events and goals realignment this mid-year puts again this plan in the backseat. We have a number of things to prioritize and hopefully, by next year, we can push through with this abroad trip.

I think I’m down to the last day that I can stay online for as long and as relaxingly as I want. We will facilitate the processing of a loan requirement for M Project tomorrow, then Thursday we are bound to join the annual excursion/educational trip of my MIL’s pre-school not to a beach but we’ll have a picnic in Tagaytay. (We would love to hit the beach though such as that of daytona beach). We’ll spend our Friday at my folks’ place in Makati at the same time drop off my son’s nanny who’ll be going home with my Mom to the province for a one week vacation. My in laws are still finalizing our cemetery visit schedules on the weekend but definitely it’ll be any day from Saturday to Monday. Just the mere thought of these schedules is making me dizzy and tired already. Of course, I’ll still try to sneak in a few minutes online to check mails and work on possible assignments that I might have by that time. But for now, I’ll really strive to finish whatever pending works to prevent cramming and stress.

How was your weekend everyone? Mine was divine. It was well spent with my boys although I worked still a little towards midnight but I made sure that both of them were soundly asleep already. For several weeks, we refrained from going out on weekends especially if we don’t have important errands to do. It’s also a part of our saving measures because we figured, the more we go out, the more we are bound to spend on impulse. So just to avoid the temptations, we just confined ourselves for most of the recent weekends except when we do our grocery shopping in a nearby supermarket. Little sacrifices all for the Little Mansion project. Besides, Christmas is just around the corner and albeit is the most fun and exciting holidays of the year, it also equates to e.x.p.e.n.s.e.s. Read as vacation and travel expenses, exchange gifts, parties, etc. Speaking of exchange gifts, that’s also one of the things that I’m saving up big these days. The husband has been so working hard these past few months that I want to reward him with a gift that is on top of his wish list. I’m very thankful that I’ve been so blessed with much earnings online that I have saved enough for it.

So anyway, back to my weekend recount. The husband treated us to a gratifying and heavenly lunch at Tokyo Cafe where I devoured 2 huge steak patties and culminated with an oversized cookies and creme crepe. Fats overload! Well, it’s just great to break free once in a while.

We strolled around the mall for about four hours…checked out the baby’s section, traveling luggage section, an appliance store, the hypermarket and even spent some time in an expo where account executives of housing developers abound handing out flyers and busily marketing their properties. We took some time to check on the newest properties being developed but we retreated after since we don’t have plans anyway of acquiring a condominium unit. Besides, we have set our eyes already on one property and we’re about to start fiddling the nitty gritty details of the Mortgage Loans processing.

Our Saturday was a bit tiring but it was overly fun since my little tot enjoyed our malling adventure. Of course, the husband and I enjoyed our bonding time as a family, too.

So how did you spend your weekend?

After taking care of my newborn niece and served as a doula to my sister who gave birth three months ago in Qatar, my mom is scheduled to come home by the end of this month. Her visa will be expiring by that time and since the setup was just temporary and she has other commitments in the province to deal with, they didn’t have to renew the visa anymore. I got to talk to her last night and despite being excited for her homecoming, she can’t help but be sad and worry about my sister and her daughter. The documents of the Indonesian “iqama” (nanny) they’ll be hiring is still being processed and they are even unsure if she can get to Qatar before our Mom leaves. My sister and her husband have day jobs so there’s no one to leave the baby to should the working papers don’t get processed as soon as possible.

On another note, my mom asked us to spend a night in Makati when she arrives so she can see and bond for a while with my son. Perhaps, we could also celebrate by then her birthday in advance (hers is on Nov 10) before she returns to the province where she is permanently based with my Grandmom and step brother. This reminds me that I better get start scouring for a birthday gift. I think a pair of High-indexed Prescription Eyeglasses On Sale is what she’s been yearning to have these past few days. My sister said she’s often complaining lately about the need to change her eyeglasses. I just hope that the item gets delivered just in time of her arrival.

Browsing through old photos of your younger years can really be therapeutic. I have just unearthed a few High School memorabilia of me and hubby and it’s just amusing to see how innocent looking we were then on pictures. (Hubby and I were High School classmates, by the way). Hubby almost gave me a slight whack on the head because I kept on chuckling over his so “childlike” looks – skinny, dark and sporting a crew cut hair as a requirement for our Citizen’s Army Training (CAT) curriculum. He laughed at my photos in return – petite, scrawny, and goofy looking because of my braces.

Oh those braces…it really brings back a lot of memories. I used to wear braces for quite a period of time to correct the spacing of my overlapping teeth. Back then, for some reason, wearing braces and retainers was a cool thing among teenagers. It was more of like a status symbol and just like when pagers and cellphones were introduced, braces became an instant fad. As for me who was forced to wear because of a genetic teeth malformation (my 2 siblings also wore braces), I didn’t find it cool. It was a torture especially when my orthodontist attached the brackets for the first time and every time she adjusts them on a monthly basis. She gave me the freedom to choose whatever rubber color she’d put on the brackets so as the season and holiday changes, so does the color of my braces, too. Every December, I had it in green and red, alternate. For the Halloween, it was in black and orange. Just a lighter way of exhausting out the pain. I had a huge relief when my teeth aligned very well and she finally removed my braces. I also wore retainers briefly then had a permanent retention behind my lower teeth. Too bad, my orthodontist migrated already abroad. I’m not sure where in the US she’s based now but I’m sure she’s doing great..at par even with the best San Diego orthodontics in Cali. The Irresistible Smiles orthodontist are all great at providing orthodontic services. They also perform various dental procedures, surgeries and implant services.

Anyway, back to the pictures, it’s also amazing to realize how we transformed over the years. We’ll surely keep these and treasure very well so that my 19 month old son will have something to chuckle over too in the future.

Meanwhile, if you’d like to see my goofy photo…hmmm, I’ll think it over first if I’ll post it online.

Motherhood really changes a lot of one’s ways and interests. Before I became a Mom, I used to collect and would love reading romance novels, fictions and pocketbooks. But now, you would find me curled up with parenting books and magazines during my free time. My shelf now has a stack of parenting and baby books that I would browse through whenever I encounter something new about my son – his development or if he’s exhibiting sickness symptoms.

From women and lifestyle magazines, I have turned into parenting and baby mags avid reader and even have subscribed to two of my favorites for a year now. Which reminds me that my subscriptions have already expired last month. Because of that, I’ll be missing this month’s issues but it’s okay, I’ll just grab from the bookstore. I would have easily renewed my subscription online but I was a bit skeptic about paying via credit card because I noticed that their site seems not secured. I didn’t find any security encryption icon or that sort. I’m very concerned about secure online payment processing because I don’t want my financial details getting hacked by those unscrupulous souls out there. I guess I have to write them about this concern so they’ll look into improving their customer service on this detail. There are trusted experts anyway for advanced online payment processing like Braintree Payment Solutions who can help them with their online credit card processing.

Anyway as I was saying, I’m loving motherhood and I love how it has transformed me into a more loving and caring individual. As my Facebook tagline goes: “I never knew my heart could hold until someone called me Mommy.”
