This coming Saturday is the 2011 University of Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Cheerdance Competition. As with the recent years, it is expected that the Big Dome will be filled once again with each of the participating universities’ students and alumni in support of their respective cheerleading and cheerdance teams. These cheerleaders are the ones who take the lead in cheering for their school’s sports teams but this weekend, the athletes will take the back seat as the cheerleaders will don their best cheerleading shoes and the most attractive cheerleading bows as they showcase their best dance and cheering moves. It was the UP Pep Squad who bagged the title last year and it’s expected that they’ll come with their best moves to retain the crown. But the rest of the cheerleading teams are also expected to come prepared, boosting with confidence that they’ll overthrow the current champions.
As a loyal alumna to my alma mater, I’d say, the UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe will definitely be at their best and reclaim the crown that has been rightfully theirs for many years now since this competition started. So UAAP fanatics, come one come all. Wear your cheer shoes and support your teams this coming Saturday.
