Regulations and Safer Medications.

Isn’t it surprising or should I say alarming how some people treat medicine and drug buying as if they’re just casually shopping for groceries? I mean, medicines are something we take in and so, they may be over the counter drugs or drug rx, utmost precaution should be observed at all times. I believe, it’s not enough that we let ourselves get convinced by advertisements right away or by unknowledgeable people or get satisfied with the doctor’s explanation (side effects aren’t fully explained). We should also do our part by researching in every means that we have the effects or just about anything on that specific drug before taking them.

The controversies involving Bayer and the countless lawsuits filed against them regarding the reported harmful effects of the birth control pills Yasmin and Yaz problems should serve as a warning. A number of users have already lost their lives and many are still at risk for they were misinformed by the misleading campaigns made by Bayer. Some users reported development of blood clots in their lungs after taking this pill. The FDA has ordered the company in the past to stop running Yaz ads that claimed the pill was a cure for PMS and acne, the company has just been recently reprimanded again by FDA after several batches of the Yaz ingredient drospirenone, failed inspection following shipment to the US by Bayer from a German manufacturing plant. In my opinion this could have been prevented if FDA was stricter with their regulations in the first place. From careful and thorough monitoring of every drug’s components up to their advertisements, FDA is the rightful and responsible authority to control and go over these things. To ensure higher standards and safer medications is the agency’s main role, after all.
