Our country is considered one of the internet heavy users here in the south east region of Asia. There are only about 3 cable and DSL internet providers that can be considered satisfactory (for most of the time) in terms of the speed they provide. However, the speed that we have is still below par of that our neighboring countries have. Then there are also times when down times and intermittent connection happen that can literally drive one crazy. Also, it’s a good thing that the coverage are now expanding throughout the archipelago. But still, there are rural areas who do not have the communication infrastructures to facilitate internet provision.
Wildblue Satellite Internet
I came across the wildblue site and this so-called Satellite Internet is interesting. It says that rural dwellers can enjoy a broadband access still without using any telephone lines or cable systems. Instead, it uses a satellite dish for two-way data communications. It may be slower a bit compared to DSL internet but it proves to be the fastest and most reliable among all other alternatives. Browsing the wild blue internet packages makes me realize that it’s a lot cheaper too considering the coverage it covers, the quality and the speed. This is the reason why more dial-up users are switching to satellite Internet nowadays.
As for our country, I think one telecommunication company is already planning to adapt such technology.
